The National Mining Agency (ANM) authorized MinTrace as a Mineral Traceability Technological Operator, becoming the first platform in the country authorized to operate and record mineral traceability at the national level.
MinTrace is a technological platform developed by the Colombian tech company CUANTICO, designed to record transactions related to the purchase, processing, and export of minerals, including gold, coal, coke, emeralds, limestone, clay, and construction materials, among others.
This authorization takes place within the framework of the implementation of the Mineral Traceability System, a national strategy led by the ANM aimed at strengthening mining formalization, preventing irregular mineral trade, and improving information management in the sector. MinTrace will operate with direct integration to the ANM, enabling its progressive deployment and nationwide coverage.
The Mineral Traceability System is based on current regulatory frameworks, particularly Decree 2234 of 2023 and Resolution 0759 of 2024 issued by the National Mining Agency, which established the technical, operational, and reporting guidelines for traceability and verification of the legal origin of minerals in Colombia. These provisions regulate information standards, control mechanisms, and technological requirements necessary to ensure the transparency and reliability of the mining chain.
Mineral traceability will be implemented progressively starting January 1 and will apply to traders, mining rights holders, processing plants, and small, medium, and large-scale mining operations.
As part of its operational launch strategy, MinTrace announced the Pioneer Plan, an initiative aimed at supporting and recognizing the first sector participants who adopt mineral traceability from the start of its implementation.
